Michael Mangan Leads Property Tax Discussion for Westside Property Owners

January 18, 2018
In December, Tonkon Torp attorney Michael Mangan, gave a joint presentation with Multnomah County Assessor Mike Vaughn to the Westside Neighbors for Tax Reform on property tax issues. He helped the gathering of residential property owners – who are leading the tax reform effort on behalf of approximately 200 owners – to understand why property taxes have skyrocketed and to better grasp the inequities created by Measure 50 and Measure 5. He explained how a recently passed bond measure (along with other steps taken by assessors, legislators, city councils, and local taxing districts) has compounded the inequities and resulted in increased taxes.
During the meeting, Michael facilitated a discussion to help the group identify potential solutions and set priorities for a future meeting with the Oregon state legislature. Westside Neighbors for Tax Reform has invited Michael to present with a larger group of property owners in preparation for a meeting with the Oregon State Senate Revenue Committee.
Michael's practice is focused on state and local tax, condemnation, and valuation disputes, as well as many aspects of real estate litigation. He is one of the authors of Ear to the Ground, Tonkon Torp's blog for development professionals, business owners, and others in Portland and the Northwest.
